Preparedness Tip #2
Pick a place to meet after a disaster. Designate two meeting places. Choose one right outside your home, in case of a sudden household emergency, such as a fire. The second place you choose needs to be outside your neighborhood, in the event that it is not safe to stay near or return to your home. This could be a nearby church, school or lighted park. Many parks have pavilions which can be nice if you are waiting things out in a rain storm. Another thing to consider is maybe locating this meet-up place where there is a payphone which could be used to contact members of your family who carry cell phones.

DO NOT DEPEND ON CELL PHONES

Do not depend on cell phones to work in an emergency or disaster. Many times utilities will be down for a time after a disaster to an area. Cell phones are no exception.
