Annual Goldminers Mt.Bike Bash

1st. Annual “Goldminer’s Mt. Bike Bash”

Join me on September 5th 2009, for our 1st. annual Goldminer’s Mt. Bike Bash. Our ride begins by taking Snowbird’s world famous tram to the top of 11,000 ft. Hidden Peak. (View PeakCam)

From Hidden Peak we will make our way down on the Mineral Basin side of the Snowbird resort and hook up with the Lupine Loop Road.

There we will ride single and double track trails and dirt roads deeper down into mineral basin. Along the way we will ride through a once rich mining boom town where millions of dollars in gold and silver were mined. Then we will make our way passed the location where Forest City, a rough and tough mining town at the mouth of Mary Ellen Gulch once stood. Today Forest City is gone, leaving behind little trace of it’s hay day when a smelter, charcoal furnaces, saw mills, a saloon or two and various stores echoed with activity. Just west of Forest City and Mary Ellen Gulch, is Graveyard Flat. This small out of the way, but forgotten cemetery, is a testament to those who lived and died in the area in the early 1870’s. Mining accidents and other causes took their toll, including the 1872 Diphtheria epidemic that swept through the mining towns and boom camps, claiming the lives of 11 children. Graveyard Flat, is where approximately 16 people of the area’s then residents now lay.

Continuing on, we will ride through the Holman Flat area along the upper American Fork River and down to Tibblefork Reservoir, which is also the site where the mining town of Tibblefork used to sit.

We will conclude our approximate 11 mile ride at the Tibblefork Parking lot.

Distance: Approximate 11 miles
Trail: Single & Double Track, and rocky dirt road.
Skill Level: Medium to High Due to distance and Elevation.
